Privacy Policy
ShinkansenView
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This page explains how the iPhone and iPad app “ShinkansenView” (the “App”) handles personal information and data, and how this website, which introduces the App, uses analytics.
1. Information collected by the developer
The developer of the App does not collect your personal information. We never collect your name, email address, phone number or contacts, and no account or sign-in is required.
However, the free version uses Google AdMob to show ads. See “5. Advertising” for what is sent in connection with ads.
2. Location
Only if you allow it, your location is used solely to show where you are on the map. It is used on your device to draw the map and is never sent to or stored by the developer or anyone else.
You can change this at any time in the Settings app under Privacy & Security → Location Services. Every feature except showing your location works without it.
3. Information stored on your device
Your display language, the lines you choose to show, time settings, the last map position, and the information needed to confirm in-app purchases are stored only on your device (UserDefaults and StoreKit). None of it is sent to the developer.
Timetable, station and line data are built into the App and are not fetched based on your usage. Deleting the App removes this information from your device.
4. Network connections
The App connects to the network only to display the map (Apple Maps), to load and show ads and confirm consent in the free version (Google), to purchase and restore in-app purchases (Apple), and when you open a station’s Wikipedia link (shown in Safari).
5. Advertising (free version)
The free version shows a Google AdMob banner below the map. If you buy “Remove Ads”, no ads are shown and the ad system is not started.
To deliver and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may send information about your device and the App (such as IP address, device type and OS version, approximate location, ad impressions and taps, and, if you allow it, the advertising identifier (IDFA)) to Google and ad partners.
In regions such as the European Economic Area and the UK, Google’s consent management tool asks for your ad consent at launch. You can change your choice at any time under “Ad Privacy Settings” in the App’s Settings.
For how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
6. Tracking
In the free version, the App asks for permission to track through App Tracking Transparency. Only if you allow it is the advertising identifier (IDFA) used to show ads more relevant to you.
If you do not allow it, every feature of the App still works (ads will not be personalized). You can change this at any time in the Settings app under Privacy & Security → Tracking.
7. In-app purchase
The App offers one one-time (non-consumable) in-app purchase, “Remove Ads”. It is not a subscription.
Neither the App nor its developer collects or stores payment information such as credit card details. Payments are processed by Apple (App Store). The App communicates with Apple to confirm purchase status.
8. Analytics on this website
This website is hosted on Firebase Hosting and uses Google’s Firebase Analytics to understand how the site is used. Information such as pages viewed, referrer, approximate region and device or browser type may be collected. This concerns visits to this website only and is unrelated to your use of the App.
9. Third-party services
The App and this website use services from Apple (MapKit / App Store / StoreKit), Google (AdMob / User Messaging Platform / Firebase Hosting / Firebase Analytics) and Wikipedia (linked pages). Data handled by each service is subject to that provider’s privacy policy.
10. Android version (“Japan Shinkansen Map”)
This policy also applies to the Android version, “Japan Shinkansen Map”. It differs from the iPhone and iPad version as follows.
The map is displayed with Google Maps (Google Maps SDK for Android).
Ads are always shown and there are no in-app purchases. For advertising, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may send information about your device and the app, including the Android advertising ID, to Google. You can reset or delete the advertising ID in your device’s Settings → Google → Ads.
App Tracking Transparency is an iOS feature and does not exist on Android. Ad consent in regions such as the EEA and the UK is handled by Google’s consent management tool, as on iPhone and iPad.
Location is handled the same way as on iPhone and iPad: only if you allow it, it is used on your device to show your position on the map and is never sent anywhere.
11. Children’s privacy
The App is not designed primarily for children. The developer does not collect personal information from any user, regardless of age.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy may be revised without notice due to changes in law or in the App or this website. Revised content takes effect when it is posted on this page.
