What you can do

Trains moving on the map

Based on the timetable, the app shows where each Shinkansen is right now. Stops, acceleration after departure and braking before arrival are all recreated, so trains glide smoothly across the map.

Tap a train for its timetable

See every stop with arrival and departure times, which stations it is running between, and where it is currently stopped.

Tap a station for departures

See every Shinkansen calling at the station for the whole day, split into outbound and inbound. The station’s Wikipedia article and nearby sights are just a tap away.

All running trains in a list

Browse every train currently running and search by name, number or station. Tap one and the map jumps to it.

Replay any date and time

Pick a date and time to see the service as it would run then. Weekday and weekend/holiday timetables switch automatically, Japanese public holidays included.

Line filters and your location

Show or hide each of the eight lines, see your current location, and pick up where you left off the next time you open the app.

Lines covered

Tohoku–Hokkaido / Yamagata / Akita / Joetsu / Hokuriku / Tokaido / Sanyo–Kyushu / Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen

Train positions are estimates based on the timetable built into the app (as of April 2026). Real-time delays and cancellations are not reflected.

Android: “Japan Shinkansen Map”

On Android, the app is available on Google Play as “Japan Shinkansen Map”. The main features are the same as on iPhone and iPad: trains moving on the map, train and station timetables, replaying any date and time, and nine languages.

The Android version uses Google Maps. It is free and shows a banner ad below the map (there is no “Remove Ads” purchase on Android). Requires Android 8.0 or later.

Price (iPhone & iPad)

  • The app is free, with every feature included.
  • The free version shows a banner ad below the map.
  • A one-time “Remove Ads” purchase (¥300 or the local equivalent) hides ads for good. It is not a subscription. Use “Restore Purchases” in Settings to apply it on your other devices with the same Apple Account.

Requirements

iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.0 or later. An internet connection is needed to display the map.
